Mental Health Awareness Week – 12.05.2025
This mental health week, we encourage everyone to get active. Being active isn’t just good for your body—it’s great for your mental health too!
When we move, our brains release chemicals that help us feel happier and less stressed. Even a short walk, a stretch, or a quick game outside can make a big difference.
Why does being active help?
- It can boost your mood and make you feel more positive
- It helps you sleep better
- It can reduce stress, worry, and anxiety
- It gives you more energy during the day
Being active looks different for everyone
You don’t have to run or go to the gym to be active. Everyone enjoys different things, and that’s okay!
You might like:
- Walking your dog
- Dancing in your room
- Playing football or another sport
- Riding your bike
- Doing yoga or stretching
- Going for a walk with friends or family
Make it fun and social
Getting active can be more fun (and less scary) if you do it with other people.
Ask a friend or family member to join you, spending time with other people (like friends, family, or teammates) can really help your mental health. Talking, laughing, or even just being around others can help you feel supported and less alone.
Doing something active together is a great way to connect and feel good at the same time.
Start small
You don’t have to do a lot all at once. Start with just a few minutes a day. Even little bits of movement can help.
Think about small ways to add more activity into your day, like:
- Getting off the bus one stop early and walking the rest of the way
- Taking the stairs instead of the lift or escalator
- Walking or cycling short trips instead of getting a lift
- Standing up and stretching during TV or game breaks
- Dancing to your favourite song while getting ready
All these small changes add up—and they can make you feel better, bit by bit.
